6.4 million e-signatures for government petitions

When the government unveiled its e-petitions site last year, Leader of the House of Commons Sir George Young suggested that it provided a potential 'megaphone' for public opinion.

Giving Brits the means to create and sign petitions online, 12 months on, and over 36,000 petitions have been submitted, attracting 6.4 million signatures. That's 12 people signing up every minute.

Petitions can cover anything that the government's responsible for, and if they collect more than 100,000 signatures, they're considered for debate in Parliament.

So far, this has resulted in six debates, but do you feel that the site has given you a 'megaphone' for your views?  Tell us below.
